My yoga teacher said something in class last week that really stood out to me (cliché, I know, but hear me out).
A self-care reminder, poem, or meditation, if you will:
"Keep going. You are getting stronger with every breath."
While she meant our bodies were getting stronger with each breath and pose, the phrase rang deeper in my mind.
We are getting stronger with every breath.
I think of myself a year ago: the things that used to get to me, my understanding of the world around me, and my overall perspective.
Think of yourself a year ago. Do not look back with envy nor guilt but compassion and motivation to move forward.
Does year-ago you feel like today you? Think about how much you've grown and what you've learned.
Think about your past obstacles or goals you felt impossible to reach or past. That trial with no clear end in sight.
Now in the past. Now accomplished. Overcome. What felt impossible or never-ending has now ended or been triumphed.
Now think back 2 years ago. You’ve grown so much.
3 years. Your past self would be so proud. What has been your main lesson, theme, or accomplishment?
Move forward to 6 months. How has your perspective changed?
1 month. What little way did you grow?
Last week. You grew a little bit, even and especially if there was a setback. Think about it.
Yesterday.
Today. Right now. You’ve grown so much.
You’re growing stronger with every breath.
Maybe you're being facing off with the impossible right now. The obstacle or weakness still your shadow, and it doesn’t seem to be fading anytime soon.
One day, you will look back and see how much you’ve grown.
You’re getting stronger with every breath.
You've survived each gasp and cough, choke and sigh, however painful or tall.
Each inhale and exhale has made you who you are.
Choose to breathe. Let the oxygen push you forward. Breathe through these moments. You’re getting stronger with every inhale and wiser with every exhale. You might not see it now, but you’ll look back again one day and be so proud.
“Look what I did.”
“I went something like this through this, too. I’m here for you.”
“It made me who I am today.”
“I never thought I’d make it through, but I am here today.”
“I am so much stronger now.”
“I overcame it.”
“I did it.”
See how much you’ve grown. Once a bud, you are now a forest.
Breathe through each moment. Breathe in each moment. You’re getting stronger with every breath.
Our past makes us strong and our present helps us grow.
To remind you of just how far you’ve come.
